Microservices have been getting more and more popular in recent years, and several companies are migrating monolithic applications to microservices. But just a reminder that switching to microservices might not always be the good option. Martin Fowler wrote a nice article regarding the monolith-first approach. Here are a couple of useful statements:

Have you ever felt that by trying to fit into an overstimulating, out-of-balance world, your physical, emotional and spiritual health suffers?

You might have been told that something’s wrong with you for experiencing anxiety and tension when dealing with loud, aggressive people or when being exposed to constant stimuli throughout the day.

“I wish those neighbours would turn down their music. It’s driving me crazy. I can’t stand it anymore.”
“What music? I don’t hear a thing. You shouldn’t let noise bother you. Something’s wrong with you.”

…“You’re so emotional!”, “Who cares about that?”, “Why can’t you just let it…

Do our minds have quantum structures that give rise to consciousness? Sir Roger Penrose, one of the world’s most famous scientists, believes this and can explain how it works.

The nature of consciousness, its occurrence in the brain, and its ultimate place in the universe are unknown. How can a structure such as the brain control all our actions and make us aware of the world around us since…

“Drawing Hands” Depiction by Maurits Cornelis Escher

This is part 1 of a mini-series where we’re aiming to go through the main themes of the “Gödel Escher Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid” by Douglas Hofstadter. The first part will concentrate on the main topic of the book and how it relates to Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem, as well as giving an insight into the relation to Escher’s pictures and Bach’s musical offerings.

Published in 1979 what professor Hofstadter is trying to answer in his book is one primary question: how animate beings can come out of inanimate matter. What is represented by a “self” and how can a…

A Simple Splunk Dashboard we aim to build

Splunk comes as a web-style interface that captures real-time data from which it can generate graphs, reports, alerts, dashboards and visualisations. It can be used to automate complex queries and reports across multiple data sources, deal with any data type and provide real-time alerting abilities. Thus, it can be a simple and quick way to help you get an insight into your business metrics, error logs and so on.

This article will focus on building a simple metrics dashboard for a user management platform which involves 3 major steps:

Topics covered:

Before starting…where do we want to get?

The scenario we will try to implement consists of building a django-rest-framework API that will authenticate the user using a custom username and password and return a token containing the user’s data.

In the second part of this article, we will have a look at how to refresh the token workflow.

What is JWT?

JWT (JSON Web Token) is a JSON open standard used for creating access tokens that represent a…
